Small house near Bab Berdaine

Here is an interesting little house to the North of the medina near Bab Berdaine.
You enter through a tiny little door with its traditional forged metal decorations and follow a long corridor to reach the central patio. It's not a very expensive house (30 000 Euros) but has an interesting layout and two large rooms that can easily be renovated.

It's the sort of house that shouldn't be too heavily renovated. The zellige aren't in excellent condition but can still be kept to give the house that authentic look. Same thing with the walls, just some whitewash would work very well.

This one would be good for weekend getaways and could easily be rented out as a whole. It's only about a five minute walk from the parking lot on Bab Berdaine, so I would say location is pretty good.

Near Bab Berdaine

Nothing special to this house but is is a decent size (about 200 m) and built on two levels.
It could be very easily cleaned up at little expense.


The wood work and doors are still all there. The rooms are quite big and well set out.

All it needs is 40 000 Euros and a little imagination ;)

another little one

Another simple little house where you can let your imagination run wild. Very basic in structure, it has three decent sized rooms on the ground floor and another two upstairs.
About 130 sqm in all.
It's a bit dim because they have covered the central opening so that needs to go.

Colorful cement tiles on the walls and floor which are very pleasant.
The view from the top of the house is awesome and there is definitely something
to be done there.

Octagonal opening

This one is different. Once again not traditional but in an interesting location.
The opening in the ceiling is octagonal which is quite original and it's very spacious (over 150 sqm) with more building space on the terrace.

It has three large rooms on the ground floor and another two small ones upstairs. There is also a bathroom and a kitchen.

Here again the modern wall tiles are pretty hard to bear and would need to be replaced.

The plumbing and electricity seem in good condition.

Cute and Cheap

I really like this one. It's only a little thing (about 90 sqm) but it really looks and feels great. Only three rooms on the ground floor and one on the terrace but of course there is always room for more above.


It still has all its original doors and the patio frame is traditional sculpted cedar wood.


The access is really wonderful. You go through lovely arched streets to get there and finally end up in front of ......

Ready to go

My friend Louis from fez ( http://louis-fes.blogspot.com ) came over for the week-end and we had a great house hunting outing. We covered the whole medina right left and center and came up with a few nice opportunities. Hope you like them !

This one is definitely not traditional. It's been done up in the modern Moroccan way. It's covered in tiles on two floors and gives a pretty crowded feeling. I chose it because it could be suitable for someone looking to have a place where they can move in immediately. It has four rooms, a bathroom and a kitchen all in good condition.
It's got to be one of the cleanest houses I've ever come across in the medina and has parking nearby.

There isn't much left but the space available and the charm of the surroundings still sets you thinking .......
